All of the photos on this site were taken by the owner, Maureen Thayer. Many of them were taken in her home state of Oregon.
Ink
All of our prints qualify as Giclée fine art prints. Photos are printed using genuine Epson Claira Hi-Definition inks with a high resolution, six-ink printing process. These archival quality inks have excellent color fastness. Prints that are kept out of the sun and properly cared for will last for decades.
Photo Paper
We use only genuine Epson papers. At this time, photo paper prints are available on glossy stock only.
Canvas
We use high-quality, water-resistant canvas specially formulated for inkjet prints. Canvas prints are available on glossy or matte stock. We recommend the glossy canvas for its beautiful satiny sheen that enhances the appearance of the colors and the pattern of the canvas.
Canvas prints are mounted on acid-free foam board, which allows them to be placed in either standard picture frames or artist frames. If using a regular picture frame, it is best to remove the glass since it will detract from the appearance of the canvas.
Canvas prints are sprayed with a clear, non-yellowing, acid-free acrylic coating to help protect against dirt and harmful UV light rays.
Texturing gel (Fredrix® brand) is a clear, acrylic gel that is brushed on by hand to give canvas prints a textured, brush stroke effect, which increases the fine art appearance. It also adds an excellent protective barrier against dirt and moisture. Prints with texturing gel can be left with the natural glossy finish or sprayed with a satin acrylic spray to reduce the gloss. Texturing gel is only available on canvas prints.
Print Sizes & Framing Tips
Most photos are available in the following sizes:
8"x10", 8.5"x11", 9"x12", 11"x14"
11"x17", 12"x18", 13"x17", 13"x19"
Because of the original dimensions of the photo, some of the sizes require that a significant part of the image be cropped out. This can greatly impact the appearance of some images. In our online store, you will see * and ** after some of the sizes listed. These identify which sizes require significant cropping of the image and which sizes are not recommended for a specific photo.
With the exception of 8" x 10" and 11" x 14", picture frames for these print sizes may not be readily available in retail stores. 8.5" x 11" document frames can be found in a number of retail shops.
For any size that a frame cannot be found locally, you have several options available:
- The first option is usually to have a mat cut with the right window size and placed in a larger, standard size frame. For example, a 13" x 17" photo would be set in a 16" x 20" mat, then put in a frame of the same size.
- A second option is ordering a frame online. Ready-made frames are available for all the sizes except 13" x 17" and the panorama sizes. There is quite a selection available at a variety of prices, some online stores having prices that are at or below the price of frames available at most craft and art supply stores.
- Another option is to buy a frame-making kit, which are available online and at many craft and art supply stores. There are a variety of kits out there for both wood and metal frames. Some craft stores will put the frame together for you for free or a small fee.
- Yet another option is to have your local frame shop make a frame for you, but this will usually be quite expensive.
- The final option is to skip the frame completely and put the photo only in a decorative, custom cut mat, using it as the frame. This option will not work for photos printed on canvas because of the difficulty in attaching the canvas to the mat. It is advised that you also use a thin sheet of plexiglass to protect the photograph from damage.
If you are using a mat, we recommend that it is acid-free or that you place an acid-free barrier between the mat and the print. This is not necessary for canvas prints with texturing gel since the gel will prevent non-acid-free mats from eventually yellowing the area of the print that is covered by the mat.
We recommend that photos printed on paper be sprayed with a clear, non-yellowing, acid-free acrylic coating to help protect them against harmful UV light rays.
All prints should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent fading, even if sprayed with a UV protectant.
Though the ink we use is surprisingly water-resistant – I have personally run one printed on paper under a faucet, then blotted it dry and saw no running or loss of ink – it's best to keep your prints dry.
To remove dust from a canvas or paper print, wipe with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. If you must use a damp cloth on a canvas print, please take great care and do not rub. We recommend against using water to clean a photo printed on paper. If your canvas print has texturing gel, you may use more water. NEVER use any kind of dust spray or cleaning chemical on your print.
As mentioned above, if you are using a mat, we recommend that it is acid-free or that you place an acid-free barrier between the mat and the print. This is not necessary for canvas prints with texturing gel since the gel will prevent non-acid-free mats from eventually yellowing the area of the print that is covered by the mat.
If your print is placed in a plastic sleeve, like, for example, you are putting it in a photo album, be sure that the sleeve is acid-free and PVC-free. We do not recommend that you use photo albums with any kind of adhesive backing. The adhesive can damage the photo and make it difficult to remove without tearing.
